Seppo Aaltonen is the Vice President of ICEYE’s Mission Systems business for Nordics and NATO for ICEYE. ICEYE operates the world’s largest constellation of  synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites that provide highly performance imaging in all weather and light conditions -  especially suitable for the demanding Arctic conditions of the High North with darkness and snow.  

ICEYE’s SAR satellites enable groundbreaking new situational awareness capabilities. As a rapidly innovating dual use Space technology company ICEYE brings groundbreaking new innovation demanding civilian and defense customers around the world. ICEYE’s SAR satellites have been successfully deployed in Ukraine since 2022With Finland and Sweden joining NATO new levels of cooperation is possible with NATO Allies also in the Space Domain.  

Prior to joining ICEYE Seppo has had a long career in high tech and in driving international business growth. In his last role before joining ICEYE he was the Chief Commercial Officer Varjo Technologies – a Finnish high tech start up delivering leading edge mixed reality technology solutions to professional customers. During Seppo’s tenure in Varjo the company landed 1600 Enterprise customers including 17 / 20 of the world’s largest Defense & Aerospace companies as Varjo customers and closed contracts with demanding defense customers in the US and the other NATO allies. 

Seppo is continuing as an advisor to the Varjo CEO and Board while working in ICEYE.  

Before Varjo Seppo has worked 15+ years in different management roles at Nokia Mobile Phones, Microsoft, Suunto and McKinsey & Co. He has lived and worked in different roles Finland, New York, Silicon Valley and Sweden.   

Seppo holds a Master of Science in Technology in Industrial Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology (Aalto University). Seppo has also studied at Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) in Sweden and Executive educations at Columbia University and Harvard Business School in the US.   

In addition to his roles in ICEYE and Varjo Seppo is also currently serving in the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Finland.   

Seppo is also a reserve officer in the Finnish Defense Forces and is an active reservist.
